TAPCE would like to wish all families a safe, fun and rewarding summer and in particular, a Happy Canada Day. With school out now and the Canada Day weekend upon us, it is hoped you will be able to enjoy the good weather and opportunities to celebrate in a meaningful way. How each Family chooses to recognize Canada’s Heritage, Blessings and Promise provide a valuable lesson to our children.  Individually or within our community let this long weekend be the beginning of a lesson in this season of warmth, freedom and hope.

Family traditions evolve over generations. They help provide children with a foundation to know where they are from and where they might go. When one thinks of childhood excursions which were the most fun the lessons learned were often not understood till much later. As Canadians, we honour the mosaic that makes up our ancestral heritage. As Canada begins the 200th anniversary of the War of 1812 many opportunities to witness rare events are also possible. As the fireworks light up the skys so too can ones family traditions and the events around us mesh to shine a way to enlightenment.

Toronto and the GTA is blessed with a bounty of opportunities to celebrate wonders of creation and engineering. Our children learn many lessons at school that can be reinforced by related experiences over the summer. When looking  for adventures to share with your children consider some of the subjects learned in the previous school year. Which piece of curriculum was most enjoyed and could be encouraged by exploring related sights of interest.

Parent Reaching Out projects will all be completed today. Some Schools and board Departments have essentially shut down till the last week of August. Yet preparations for next years school year continue. You too can look ahead at next years curriculum and help you child get a head-start. Ministry/Board computer resources and general web sites are also available to maintain a habit of learning and the self discipline to succeed .
